A wooden spurtle is an important utensil for making the perfect porridge and dates back centuries. The cylindrical shape allows the oats to be stirred rather than be dragged by the head of a wooden spoon.
This helps to prevent lumps and the porridge sticking to it. This spurtle has been turned with a thistle shaped handle and tapered rod with beaded end to help stop the porridge sticking to the pan. A kitchen must and also makes a lovely gift.

Brilliant. My husband tells me it breaks down the oats and makes a creamier porridge.
